Gym-based physiotherapy in North Sydney, with your physio steering every block
At Adapt your physiotherapist assesses you, writes your rehab program and reviews it as you progress, and between those reviews you train on our North Sydney gym floor in sessions our team supervises, so the plan and the work stay together. Start with an assessment.

Two ways to rehab at Adapt
Both start with an assessment from a physiotherapist. Gym-based physio adds supervised training between your reviews.
| Physio appointments | Gym-based physio | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the rehab happens | In the clinic, with exercises for home or the gym | On the gym floor, in sessions planned by your physiotherapist |
| Between appointments | You do your exercises on your own | You train in sessions our team supervises |
| How progress is measured | How it feels and what you can do | VALD strength testing and your program in the Adapt app |
| When the plan changes | At your next appointment | At your physio reviews, using your training and test results |
| Often suits | A new injury, a niggle or a quick check | Rehab after surgery, a return to sport or a long-running problem |
How often will I see my physiotherapist?
That is a clinical decision you make together. Your physiotherapist sets how often your program is reviewed from your assessment and changes it as your rehab moves on, and your fees are confirmed with you before you start.
How your rehab runs
Four stages take you from your assessment into a gym program, with your physiotherapist setting each block.
Assessment
Your physiotherapist asks about your injury, history and goals, then tests how you move and how strong you are.
Your program
They write your gym program and load it into the Adapt app, so every session follows the plan.
Supervised sessions
You train on the gym floor while our team sets up each exercise and adjusts the load with you.
Review and retest
Your physiotherapist reviews your program, retests your strength with VALD and sets the next block.
The physios and coach behind your rehab
Your physiotherapist writes and reviews the plan, and James runs the strength side of it with you on the floor.

Assesses and writes rehab programs, with a strength and conditioning background.

Reviews programs and training load with the coaching team.

Strength coaching in your supervised sessions.
Coached sessions between your reviews
Each session follows the program your physiotherapist wrote, while our team adjusts load and technique on the floor and passes anything that needs a clinical look back to your physio.

Rehab we plan on the gym floor
Find the situation closest to yours.
After surgery
Rehab that follows your surgeon's protocol, from early loading to heavier strength work.
Long-running pain
Back, sciatica and shoulder problems that have lingered.
Strength for later life
Building and keeping strength as you get older.

Strength measured at every review
At each review your physiotherapist retests your strength with VALD and compares it with your last result. Those numbers, alongside how your sessions have felt, decide whether the next block adds load, changes exercises or holds steady.
What testing costs and claimsQuestions about gym-based physio
Book an assessmentWhat happens at the assessment?
Your physiotherapist spends 45 to 60 minutes on your injury, movement, strength and goals, and you leave with your program in the Adapt app and a plan for the weeks ahead.
Can I claim gym-based physiotherapy on my health fund?
Consults with your physiotherapist may be claimable on extras cover, depending on your fund and level of cover. Supervised gym sessions, the Adapt app and strength testing are not claimable.
Do I need gym experience?
No. Your program starts from where you are, and our team shows you every exercise and sets up the equipment with you.
Can I keep training at Adapt after my rehab?
Yes. Once your physiotherapist agrees your rehab block is finished, you can carry on with a gym membership or personal training at Adapt.
How long does gym-based physio take?
It depends on your injury or surgery and how you respond, so there is no set length. Your physiotherapist plans your rehab in blocks, and each review decides whether you move on, repeat or finish.
Can I start gym-based physio after ACL surgery?
Yes. Rehab after ACL reconstruction is one of the situations we plan on the gym floor. Bring your surgeon's protocol to your assessment and your physiotherapist will build your program around its timing.
What is VALD testing?
VALD makes force plates and strength testing equipment. Your physiotherapist uses it at your reviews to measure strength and compare your left and right sides, so changes to your program are based on numbers as well as how you feel.
