How often should you see a physio?

There is no set number. How often you see a physio depends on the injury, your goals and how you respond, and it changes as rehab moves on. Your physiotherapist explains the plan at your first appointment.

What decides how often you come in

Your physiotherapist weighs these together at the first appointment, then checks them again each time you return.

  • How easily it flares

A new or easily flared injury needs closer review than a stable one.

  • Surgery and its protocol

Your surgeon's protocol sets what is allowed, and reviews are booked around it.

  • Your goals and deadlines

A game, event or work deadline can change when the next review helps.

  • How you respond

Visits sit further apart as you respond and manage more of the work yourself.

How the rhythm changes through rehab

The work changes through rehab, and visit spacing is agreed at each review.

Book a physio
  1. Settle and understand

Your physiotherapist works out what is going on and books the next visit.

  2. Build

Load is added as you tolerate it, with reviews checking the response.

  3. Prepare for your activities

Visits line up with the sport, work or tasks you are preparing for.

  4. Manage it yourself

You leave with a plan you can keep, and book again if something changes.

What you work on between appointments

Between visits you follow the exercises, loads and limits from your last appointment. Tell the team if something does not feel right.

When supervised loading suits the plan, that work can move onto the gym floor as gym-based physiotherapy, with coaches running the sessions and your physiotherapist deciding the next review.

Is there a set number of physio appointments I should book?

No. It depends on the injury, how long you have had it, your goals and how you respond, and it changes as rehab moves on. Your physiotherapist explains the plan at the first appointment. Fees are confirmed before you start.

Who runs the work between reviews

Coaches run supervised sessions from the program your physiotherapist wrote. Your physiotherapist still decides progressions and when the next visit is booked, so the floor work and the review stay on the same plan.

Can I space physio visits to keep the cost down?

Ask your physiotherapist. Spacing is a clinical decision based on how you respond, and they can explain what a wider gap would mean. The fee is confirmed before you book.

What happens at a review

A review checks how you have responded since the last visit. Your physiotherapist looks at the current presentation, treats where it helps, and updates the work you do next.

You leave with the next block of work and a review date. Book it before you go or on the physio booking page, or contact the team about timing.

Questions about how often to come in

Book a physio

What notice do I need to give to move or cancel a physio appointment?

A missed appointment with no notice may be charged the full appointment fee, and so may a cancellation inside 24 hours. Give us at least 24 hours notice by phone or email and there is no fee to move or cancel.

What if my symptoms change between appointments?

Tell the team before your next visit. Your physiotherapist can review the plan and move the next appointment if things have shifted. Call or email Adapt if something new appears.

Who decides when visits can be spaced further apart?

Your physiotherapist. Spacing follows how you have responded, the current stage of rehab and what you are working towards, and it is agreed at each review rather than set in advance for the whole course.

Do supervised gym sessions replace physio reviews?

No. Coaches run supervised sessions from the program your physiotherapist wrote, and your physiotherapist still decides progressions and when the next visit is booked. Supervised gym work sits between reviews when that route is part of your plan.

Should I keep booking once I can manage the work myself?

Not as a standing timetable. When you can manage the work yourself, your physiotherapist agrees a plan you can keep and you book again if something changes or you want the plan checked. The last review sets that, rather than an open-ended run of visits.

Does a long-running injury mean fewer physio visits from the start?

Not automatically. How long you have had the problem is one factor, alongside how easily it flares, what you are working towards and how you respond. Your physiotherapist explains the opening plan at the first appointment, then changes it as reviews land.
